Experiences of the Great War

Family contact

Thomas Hannan was permitted some contact with the outside world while he was incarcerated in Dartmoor. His papers at the National Library of Scotland include correspondence with his family during that time.

These letters provide a fascinating insight into his views and experiences within the work camp.

They also reveal the reactions of his family to his decision not to go and fight at the Front during the First World War.
