Experiences of the Great War

Wife

Thomas Hannan's letters reveal that lack of contact with his young family and with his wife, Hannah, was clearly difficult for him.

This sentiment was shared, of course, with men away on active service during the First World War, including his brother David, who was with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.

Once Thomas agreed to be included on the Home Office Scheme, he was permitted to receive a photograph of the family, which Hannah duly sent to him.
