Jane Inglis Clark

While sheltering with Lucy Smith and Mabel Jeffery at the boulder near the Lix Toll, Perthshire, in 1908, Jane Inglis Clark apparently announced: 'It is time we started our own club for women.'

They had been barred from joining the Scottish Mountaineering Club because of their gender.

Jane is in the centre of the ladies' climbing club group in this photograph.
