Anne Grant

Born Anne Macvicar in Glasgow in 1755, she spent her childhood between the Highlands and Oswego, New York. She later married clergyman James Grant and moved to Laggan.

Anne immersed herself in local Gaelic culture, learning to not only speak the language but to translate it. Her own writing was influenced by the awe and splendour of the landscape surrounding her and in turn influenced perceptions of the Highlands and their inhabitants.
