| Description | Queen Mary visiting a hospital on the Western Front. She is standing outside on a wooden balcony talking to a wounded soldier. He is lying on a bed with a sunshade propped up beside his head, to protect his face from the sun. There is a man sitting on a deckchair at the end of the bed, possibly another patient. A uniformed man stands next to the Queen, and a nurse watches the scene from the background. King George V and Queen Mary visited the Western Front on a number of occasions during World War I. Queen Mary spent a lot of her time visiting sick and wounded soldiers in hospitals behind the front line.
