| Description | Queen Mary standing in the entrance to a large building of corrugated iron. There is a woman in civilian clothes and a uniformed man standing next to the Queen. The three of them are having a conversation. On the road running alongside the building there are two cars parked, probably waiting to escort the Queen. The registration of the car in front is 'RC.230.' Four uniformed men are standing on the road next to the two cars. An important function of royal visits to the Western Front was to spend time in hospitals behind the line, meeting and talking to wounded soldiers and the nurses caring for them. It was thought that these visits would help raise the spirits of the wounded. [Original reads: 'ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT. THE VISIT OF HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN. - THE QUEEN AT A HOSPITAL.'] |
