-CREICH is a parish, in Sutherland poor
â– comhination and Dornoch small debt court
â– district; : it is a large parish, being about
35 miles long by a breadth varying from 2
*t> 8, bounded on the north by Lairg, on the
Bouth by Kincardine and Edderton, in Ross-
shire, on the east by Dornoch and Bogart,
and on the west by Kincardine (in Ro&s-
shire) and Assynt. The village is on the
north side of the Dornoch Firth, 1 mile
^flouth from Bonar Bridge station on the
Tain and Brora section of the Highland
railway, 10 north-west from Tain and 9£
west from Dornoch. The river Oykel,
â– which rises in the northern extremity of
the parish, near Ben More, a mountain.
3,273 feet high, forms the western boundary
â–  of the parish for about 20 miles and sepa-
rates it from Boss-shire; th's river in its
. course receives the Caseley, which also rises
in the parish. The Duke of Sutherland
K.G. ; Sir Charles Henry Augustus Fred-
erick Boss bart. D.L. of Balnagown, and
Robert Lockhart Alston esq. of Newfield,
Kilmun, Argyle, are the , principal land-
owners. The area of the parish is 107,652
acres; rateable value, £10,338; the popula-
tion in 1901 was 1,836.
Bonar Bridge is a considerable village in
-the parish of Creich, on the great north mail
â–  road, ana on the north side of the Firth of
Dornoch, with a station on the Tain and
T3rora section of the Highland railway, and
ds 15 miles north-west from Tain and 13
west from Dornoch. Kyle of Sutherland
â– is here crossed by an iron bridge, completed
in 1893, at a cost of £13,000, from designs
'by Messrs. Crouch & Hogg, engineers, of
â– Glasgow; it has three spans of '70 feet,
"105 feet and 140 feet respectively, and a
roadway of 25 feet. Here are two hotels,
â– a branch of the Caledonian Banking Com-
pany Limited, and a Drill hall for the
volunteers. Fairs are held in the village on
'the second Monday in April, June. Ju\v,
August, September and October. Popula-
tion in 1901, 401, including 30 officials and
inmates in Sutherland Combination Poor-
'house.
Altass, Spinningdale, Rosehall, Inveran
^and Invershin are also small villages in
Creich parish. At Invershin is a station on
'the Tain and Brora section of the Highland
railway, 4 miles north from Bonar Bridge,

DORNOCH, a parish on the south-eatt
coast, to the north of Dornoch Firth, is
lso a small seaport and a royal and parlia-
mentary burgh, the capital of the county
and head of a sheriff court, and in the
Sutherland poor combination; it is 9 miles
north from Tain, 7 south from Golspie and
15 north from Cromarty. The' parish, which
is bounded north by Golspie, south by
Creich and west by Rogart, is 10 miles in
