CITY OF GLASGOW NATIVE BENEVOLENT
ASSOCIATION.
Its object is to afford assistance to natives and
widows, and families of natives, of the city of Glas-
gow, who from reverses of fortune, or otherwise, have
been reduced to necessitous circumstances. A pay-
ment of £5 5s., either in one sum at entry or by five
successive yearly instalments of £1 Is., constitutes
membership. President, the Hon. James Bain, Lord

THOMSON'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded 24th April, 1717, by James Thomson,
tanner in Glasgow, for the maintenance of sis poor
old men of the trades' rank. Patrons, the deacon-
convener and deacons of the crafts.
THOMAS THOMSON'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded by Thomas Thomson, merchant in Glas-
gow, 11th January, 1724, for distribution amongst
the indigent poor. Amounts vary from Is. 8d. to 5s.
Patron, the Lord Dean of Guild.

For the advancement of the mathematical, physical,
and natural sciences, with their applications, and to
promote the diffusion of scientific knowledge. Meets
fortnightly, from November to April inclusive, in the
Corporation Galleries. Possesses an extensive scien-
tific library. Consists of 640 members. Connected
with the society are chemical, physical, sanatory and
economical, and architectural sections.

GLASGOW ART CLUB.
Instituted 1867.

The object of this Club is the study and advance-
ment of art in Glasgow and the West of Scotland,
which it seeks to promote by means of a life class, a
sketching class, and an annual exhibition of works by
its members, and also by social meetings at which
sketches, pictures, and objects of art are exhibited,
and by conversation and discussions on art topics.
Intending applicants for admission will receive all
necessary information from the secretary, with whom
applications must also be lodged.
GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF GLASGOW.
Anderson's University, George Street.
For the advancement of geological science by
meetings for the reading of papers, the exhibition of
fossils, and other objects illustrative of the science,
and by excursions to localities of geological interest
around Glasgow. The JIuseum contains specimens
of rocks and fossils, chiefly from the West of Scot-
land; and the publications of the leading geological
societies of Great Britain, the continent of Europe,
and America, are regularly presented to the librarj-.
The Transactions of the Society are published annu-
all}'. Number of members (exclusive of honorary
and corresponding) at 1st October, 1874, 200.
Ordinary meetings are held on the second Thursday
of each month (and occasional meetings for lectures,

NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY OF GLASGOW.
For the purpose of encouraging the pursuit of
natural history in all its branches, and fostering a
love of the sciences, by meetings for the exhibition
of specimens, both native and foreign, the reading of
communications, and excursions for mutual improve-
ment. Candidates for membership are recommended
by three members of the society. The society meets
on the last Tuesday of the months, September to April,
in the library of Anderson's University, George Street.
