EXAMINATIONS OF PERSONS UNDER SPIRITUAL CONCERN II
Christ in all his Redeeming Offices, as Prophet to teach Priest to save & King
to Rule me. I could not forbear crying out Bless the Lord O my Soul & forget
not all benefits &c: as in the 103d Psalm.9 My heart was I had then an ardent
desire, if it had been possible to have had 1000s of congregations employed
in praising him, & that Heaven & Earth Should sing with his praises.
But about five or six days after this []10 I was tempted to think all I had
met with was but Delusion, upon which I was brought under great distress,
and thought I was a Cast-away, & that the Lord would never have mercy on
me, or forgive such heinous sins as I had been guilty of; Shortly after, while
I was under much perplexity with such apprehensions, that word came into
my heart, I say I even I am he that blotteth out thy transgressions & will
not remember thy sins, for my own names sake:11 this word came with such
power, as eas’d me of the burden that had been on my Spirit, and caused me to
rejoice at the hopes of Gods pardoning & pitying me & sending such a word
to reheve me & to ly low before him for my unbelief & distress.
[22/- through 24/- blank]
9 Ps 103:2.
10 Insertion [‘when this frame went off’]: McCulloch.
11 Isa 43:25.
