and to hold one, two or three compatible benefices with or without
cure, provided they were not major or principal dignities in cathedral
or collegiate churches without further mention of his defect of birth,
by virtue of which he holds a canonry of Glasgow and the prebend
of Barlanark, to hold as many different kinds of benefices as he
pleases with powers of exchange as often as he wishes.

To Henry, bishop of St Andrews. Mandate to provide William de
Blar, priest, monk of Coupar, o.cist., b.dec., to the abbacy of
Kynlos, vacant by the resignation outside the curia of Adam de
Tarras, former abbot, into the hands of David, abbot of Melrose,
and which had been reserved under Adam to papal provision. On
Adam’s resignation the convent, in ignorance of the reservation, had
elected William as abbot and he had consented to the election, which
was confirmed by John, late bishop of Moray, who had given
William administration of the goods; but on learning of the said
reservation William had appealed to the pope who annulled his
election and the events subsequent, but to prevent a long harmful
vacancy grants the above mandate. William is to be consecrated by
the mandatory or another catholic bishop who is to receive from
William the oath of fealty which is then to be sent under his seal to
the pope by the next envoy.
