Indult for James, kinsman of Alexander de Lyndesay, earl of Crau-
ford, recently dispensed of a defect of birth as the son of an un¬
married man and an unmarried woman to be promoted to all holy
orders and to hold a benefice even if with cure, abolishing all stain
and inhability contracted by him in holding the parish church of
St Brioci, St Andrews diocese, to which he had been canonically
provided, and in receiving its revenues for more than six years
without being raised to the priesthood and without a papal dis¬
pensation; but he is to demit the said church.2

deacon of Majorca. Mandate to collate James de Lyndesay, deacon,
of St Andrews diocese, b.dec., m.a., kinsman of Alexander de
Lyndesay, earl of Crawford, to the parish church of St Brioce,
St Andrews diocese, value not exceeding 40 merks sterling to a non¬
resident, which he had held illegally for six years and had been
forced to demit [as in Reg Aven 340, 689V-690 above], notwith¬
standing his defect of birth as the son of an unmarried man and an
unmarried woman from which he has been dispensed to be pro¬
moted to all holy orders and to hold a benefice even if with cure.3
