LETTERS OF POPE BENEDICT XIII
ii March, 1410 Reg Aven 335, 364-5
To James de Lyndesay, rector of the parish church of St Brioci,
St Andrews diocese, m.a. Indult. James had recently been provided
to a canonry of Aberdeen with reservation of a prebend, whether
a dignity, perpetual administration or office with cure, but on his
peaceful assecution to which he was held to demit his parish church.
Notwithstanding a defect of birth as the son of unmarried parents
James, firstly had been dispensed to be promoted to all holy orders
and to hold a benefice with cure and to hold two other benefices
even if canonries and prebends, dignities, perpetual administrations
or offices in cathedrals or parsonages with powers of exchange. By
virtue of the first dispensation James had been promoted to the sub-
diaconate and had obtained the above parish church, but he had
been held to exchange this or any of the above type of benefice he
might have obtained for compatibles within three years. As this
period of time is almost over, James by this indult is granted an
extension to five years.
Barcelona, 5 Id. Mar., anno 16; expedited, 2 Kal. Nov., anno 19
[31 Oct., 1412].
4 May, 1410 Reg Aven 334, 252-3
To the official of St Andrews. Mandate to collate Richard Knight,
rector of the parish church of Conveth, St Andrews diocese, b.dec.,
to the parish church of Rochow, said diocese. This church had been
held by Thomas Trayle who had become involved in a dispute
with Robert de Moffet, canon of Glasgow, over the parish church
of Bothwyl, Glasgow diocese, and when the case was heard by
John, abbot of Sweetheart, o.cist., Thomas, after abusing John and
papal justice had withdrawn to Peter de Candia calling himself
Alexander v. As a result, mandatory letters were sent to the official
of St Andrews to examine the case and if necessary to deprive
Thomas of Rochow; and if Thomas is deprived as a result of this
mandate Richard is to have possession, notwithstanding that he is
known to hold a canonry of Moray, the prebend of Adwg and
Crumdale and the aforesaid parish church of Conveth which, how¬
ever, on his peaceful assecution to Rochow he is held to demit.
