gotten, John had been elected abbot. But subsequently as the charges
continued, John had lived with his own daughter and had had
several children by her and other women, had alienated much of
the goods of the monastery and had appropriated cattle and corn
to his own use. If these charges are proven the above bishop is to
depose John.

To the bishop of Glasgow. Mandate to provide Walter Paniter,
priest, of noble birth,studying in Decreets for several years at Paris
and Orleans, and prior claustral of Aberbrothock monastery, osb,
to the abbacy of the said monastery, at the petition of Robert, king
of Scots, if the charges which he and several of the monks of the
monastery had brought against John, abbot of the said monastery
are proven [as in Reg Aven 325, 124-124V above]. The bishop of
Glasgow or another bishop is to receive the oath of fealty from
Walter according to the form contained in the bull, without pre¬
judice to the right of the bishop of St Andrews to whom the
monastery is accustomed, by ordinary right, to be subject.

To the official of Glasgow. Mandate to collate Robert Avenare,
rector of the parish church of St Brigid of Arone, Sodor diocese,
priest, to a benefice of the type wont to be assigned to secular
priests, in the gift of the abbot and convent of Kilwynnyn, notwith¬
standing that he is known to hold the said parish church which,
however, on his peaceful assecution to such a benefice with cure
he is held to demit.1
