LETTERS OF POPE BENEDICT XIII

To Walter, earl of Caithness, and Elizabeth, daughter of Sir William
Graham, Dunblane diocese. Indult is granted dispensing Walter to
marry Elizabeth notwithstanding their being related in the third
degree of affinity in that Walter had been married to the late
Margaret who was related to Elizabeth in the third degree of con¬
sanguinity, and also because the late Robert de Keyth, kinsman of
Walter, had wished to marry Elizabeth but had been unable to do
so as they did not have a dispensation. On the consummation of
the marriage between Walter and Elizabeth they are held to pay
10 merks sterling to the fabric fund of the church of the Friars Minor
of Dunfres, Glasgow diocese.

Ad perpetuam rei tnemoriam. Papal confirmation at the petition of
David, the abbot and the convent of Melrose, o.cist. of a grant by
Robert, king of Scots, to the said monastery of the right of patron¬
age in the church of Wastyrker in Eskdale, Glasgow diocese, of
which a certain version had been sent to the curia, attested to by
John de Janua and James de Fauside, Glasgow and St Andrews
dioceses, clerks and public notaries on 27 March, 1404, and further
attested to at Dalkeith by James de Douglas, lord of Dalkeith; James
de Douglas his son and heir; James de Douglas of Robarton; William
de Cranston; William Monypeny and John Broune, knights; John
de Douglas and Robert Archebaldson, priests; Alexander Grahame
and John Turnbule, esquires; and at Edinburgh by John, abbot of
Holyrood; David de Craufurde, prior of Holyrood and John Paslay,
canon of the said monastery.1
