LETTERS OF POPE BENEDICT XIII
non-major dignity with cure, value not exceeding ^40 sterling,
vacant by the provision of Henry de Wardlau former precentor
to the archdeaconry of Glasgow, and on John’s peaceful assecution
to the precentorship he is to demit another canonry of Glasgow,
the prebend of Castel Garris, and the said perpetual vicarage of
Dunlop.

To Thomas, abbot of Sweetheart, o.cist, Glasgow diocese. Indult
to wear mitre, ring and pontifical insignia, and also to exercise
certain rights over priories, parishes and churches subject to or
belonging to the monastery, as long as no bishop or legate with full
right is at hand.

To the bishop of Aberdeen. Mandate to hear and decide a case
between William Buny, rector of Maleville, the noblewoman
Marjory, widow of Henry, lord of the place of Logtoun, St Andrews
diocese, and executors of his will on the one hand, and Sir James de
Douglas, same diocese, on the other. Sir James had unlawfully
detained certain moveable goods which Henry had allocated to
pious and other uses at the hands of the above executors, and the
case had first been heard in the curia of the bishop of St Andrews
whose right it was to hear cases of this kind between lay persons
of his diocese; but Sir James falsely asserting injustice at the hands
of the said bishop had appealed to the apostolic see, and the pope
had committed the case successively to Wilderico de Mutra, John
Taydici and finally Stephen Laboria, auditors of appeals, without it
being successfully terminated. Stephen had finally remitted the case
to chancery whereupon it was submitted that the case would be
