Ad perpetuam rei metnoriam. Papal confirmation, at the petition of
Thomas, the abbot of the convent of Sweetheart, o.cist., of
charters granted by Robert and William, former bishops of Glasgow
to the said monastery. On the vigil of Blessed Barnabas the apostle
[10 June] 1277, at Glasgow, Robert had granted, with the consent
of Devorguilla of Galwyth, lady of Balliol, and the chapter of
Glasgow, to the abbot and convent of that time and their successors,
the parish church of Lochkyndelok, said diocese, in propios usus, the
right of presentation to which had hitherto pertained to the said
Devorguilla and her predecessors. The abbot and convent were to
obtain the church on its cession, demission or the death of Richard
de Foxton, then rector, and it was to be served by a monk or secular
priest at the institution of the said abbot and convent, and the person
so instituted was to be free from all episcopal visitations and payment
of synodal, archidiaconal or any other ordinary dues. And on 14
April, 1341 at Paisley, William, with the consent of his chapter,
had granted to the abbot and convent of Sweetheart and their
successors, the church of Kyrkpatrickdurant in proprios usus with
half of the land of the church, to be served by a monk or secular
chaplain who was to hold the other half of the land and pay three
parts, with the abbot paying two parts, of all dues episcopal, synodal,
archdiaconal or any others, ordinary or extraordinary.1
