his peaceful assecution to the archdeaconry he is held to demit the

25 May, 1398 Reg Aven 304, 176V-177V
To the abbots of Melrose and Paisley and the provost of Lincluden.
Mandate. Henry Wardlau, precentor of Glasgow, b.dec., nephew
of the late Cardinal Walter, had been provided by Clement vn to
the archdeaconry of Glasgow, vacant seemingly by the resignation
of John, bishop of Tusculum, whereas it was in fact vacant because
the late Duncan Petyt who had been provided to the archdeaconry
of the said church, a non-major dignity, had obtained the provostry
of the church of St Andrew, a dignity with cure, and had held it
for a month or more contrary to the decree Execrabilis; so the present
pope provides Henry to the archdeaconry with power to exchange
the parish church or archdeaconry for a compatible benefice, within
two years of peaceable assecution to the archdeaconry, notwith¬
standing that he holds the parish church of Caveris, Glasgow diocese,
the precentorship of Glasgow, which precentorship he is to demit,
a canonry and prebend of Aberdeen, and that he is litigating over a
canonry and prebend of Moray.
