Scots, for the abbot and monastery of Holyrood of Edinburgh,
os A, St Andrews diocese, to incorporate in perpetual union the
perpetual vicarage of Variecapelle, St Andrews diocese, then per¬
taining to the bishop of St Andrews, after the death of or cession by
the present vicar, the goods of which are to be held by the abbot

March, 1397]; consigned, 2 Kal. Apr., anno 3 [31 March, 1397].
26 October, 1395 Reg Aven 303, 452V-453
To Mathew, bishop of Glasgow. Mandate. Robert, king of Scots,
had shown that David Bell, canon and abbot of Holyrood of Edin¬
burgh, os A, had resigned the said abbey into the hands of the late
Walter, cardinal and legate in Scotland and Ireland, who admitted
the resignation by papal authority and by the same authority had
assigned to David certain teinds, lands, houses and possessions until
he should obtain possession of some priory; but later having obtained
possession of the priory of Loch Leven, os A, by papal authority he
resigned it into the hands of Walter, bishop of St Andrews, outside
the curia, and the chapter of St Andrews assigned to him an annual
pension of 40 merks sterling from the revenues of the priory. Robert
however, claimed this to be too great a burden on the priory and
sought revocation of the pension so David is to be summoned and
examined and the mandatory is granted faculty to revoke or de¬
crease the said pension.
