To Richard Knight, rector of the parish church of Garin,2 Dunblane
diocese. Reservation to Richard, priest, lic.art., student of canon
law for several years, of a benefice with or without cure in the gift
of the bishop of St Andrews and the prior and chapter of St Andrews,
whether a dignity, parsonage or office in a cathedral provided the
dignity is not a major one, if with cure to the value of 60 merks
sterling and if without cure to the value of 40 merks sterling, vacant
after 13 Kal. Maii [19 April], 1401, notwithstanding that he is
known to hold the said parish church which is in lay patronage and
is of moderate value, and the chaplaincy of Tanadas, a church
without cure, St Andrews diocese, which he is dispensed to retain
along with any benefice as above obtained by virtue of these letters;
but within three years he is held to exchange the benefice for com¬
patibles otherwise at the end of the three years he is held to demit
the parish church.3

priest, Glasgow diocese, a benefice in the gift of the abbot and
convent of Paisley, o.clun. if with cure to the value of 25 merks
sterling, and if without cure to the value of 18 merks sterling,
vacant after 13 Kal. Maii [19 Apr.], 1401.4
