LIEUTENANT PETER JOHN STEWART MACPHAIL, 7 Craigmillar Park,
Edinburgh.
Joined O.T.C. in September 1915, and after training obtained Commission
as 2nd Lieutenant in Royal Garrison Artillery. Went to France in
January 1917. Was slightly wounded in March 1918 and afterwards
suffered from shell-shock. In May 1918 found unfit for general service
and returned to this country. In November 1918 contracted pneumonia
and died on 26th of that month at Magdalene Camp Hospital, Win-
chester. Prior to death promoted Lieutenant. Served as Temporary
Adjutant.
CAPTAIN ALEXANDER WILLIAM URQUHART MACRAE, 14 Gloucester
Place, Edinburgh.
Mobilised with 5th Royal Scots in August 1914, and went to Gallipoli with
29th Division in April 1915. Took part in many engagements, and was
wounded in the head at Fir Tree Wood when making an attack against the
Turks. Again severely wounded, and on recovering was sent first to Egypt
and then to France. Afterwards wounded twice, and appointed Second in
Command of the 52nd Batt. Devonshire Regiment at home. Returned to
France and fell in action on nth August 1918, at Parvilliers, while leading
his men.
LIEUTENANT CHRISTOPHER R. M'VITTIE, 15 Rutland Street
Edinburgh. (Apprentice.)
Mobilised as Sergeant in 4th Battalion the Royal Scots. Promoted
C.Q.M.S. March 1915. Landed at Gallipoli 14th June 1915. Wounded
12th July 1915. Promoted C.S.M. August 1915. Returned to Gallipoli and
took part in evacuation of Cape Helles January 1916. Promoted 2nd
Lieutenant and attached to 12th Royal Scots. Served in France January
to April 1917. Promoted Lieutenant April 1918. Discharged on account
of wounds received in France.
CAPTAIN GILBERT CUMMING MANFORD, M.C., 25 Mayfield Road,
Edinburgh.
Received Commission as 2nd Lieutenant 14th Highland Light Infantry in
November 1914. Served in France from June 1916 till 1918. Promoted
Captain and Adjutant June 1916. Awarded Military Cross. Demobilised
May 1919.
