30 MORAYSHIRE ROLL OF HONOUR
BOOTH, Ethelbert Victor. Lieut., 4th Lancashire Fusiliers ; born at Shardlow, near Derby,
Derbyshire, residing in Knockando since Nov., 1914 ; joined at Aberlour, Banffshire, about
1913 (T.F.), mobilised 5th August, 1914, and went to France as Sergt., 6th Gordons T.F., later
received commission ; three times wounded : in the wrist, in the knee, and in left foot, and
also seriously gassed. Son of H. and A. B. Booth, Speyview, Knockando, Morayshire.
Occupation, law student.
BOOTH, Herbert William. Lieut., 3rd Scottish Rifles (Cameronians) ; born at Melbourne,
Derbyshire, 16th May, 1895, residing at Knockando since Nov., 1914 ; joined at Aberlour,
Banffshire, about 1912 (T.F.), mobilised 5th August, 1914, went to France as Sergt. 6th Gor-
dons. T.F., later received commission ; served in Flanders, Egypt and Salonica ; wounded in
the arm in Salonica and in the foot in Flanders ; mentioned in Despatches during Salonika
Campaign by Gen. Milne ; awarded Mons Star. Son of H. and Alice Beatrice Booth, Spey-
view, Knockando, Morayshire. Occupation, law student.
BORTHWICK, Alexander. No. 352203, Pte., Labour Battn. ; born at Forres, 12th Jun, 1804 ;
joined at Fort George, 1st April, 1917 ; served in France. Son of Bella Borthwick. Occu-
pation, baker.
BORTHWICK, Andrew. No. 9257, Lce./Cpl., 2nd, 6th and 7th Seaforths ; born at Forres, 2nd
August, 1889 ; joined at Fort George, 1903 ; went to France in Oct., 1914, transferred to
Mesopotamia, Jan., 1916 ; wounded, April, 1915, and Oct., 1915, in France, and 25th April,
1916, in Mesopotamia ; died of wounds, 29th April, 1916, in Mesopotamia. Son of Andrew
Borthwick (deceased) and Jane Paterson or Borthwick, 26b, High Street, Forres. Occupation,
chauffeur.
BORTHWICK, Charles. No. 265240, Lce./Cpl., 4th Res. Seaforth Highlanders; born at
Forres, 4th Feb., 1898 ; joined at Forres, 10th March, 1913, mobilised with Territorials, in
August, 1914 ; served in France ; wounded. Son of Bella Borthwick. Occupation, nursery
man.
BORTHWICK, Peter. Lieut., 43rd Canadian Cameron Highlanders ; born at Berreylea, Dyke,
29th Sept., 1890 ; joined at Winnipeg, Man., Canada, June 16th, 1915 ; served in France ;
killed, Oct. 26th, 1917, at Passchendaele Ridge, near Ypres. Son of Thomas Borthwick,
4, Argyle Terrace, Inverness, and Annie Eraser or Borthwick. Occupation, telephone clerk.
BOURNE, Alfred William. No. 41287, Pte., 2/6th Seaforth and 2nd Seaforth Highlanders ;
born at Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, 10th Jan., 1898, residing in Elgin for 20 years ; joined at
Elgin, 19th May, 1916 ; served in France ; wounded 7th May, 1918. Son of John and Emma
Bourne, 7, South Guildry Street, Elgin. Occupation, clerk.
BOURNE, Stanley Bertie. No. 202386, Pte., Gordons and i/5th Royal Scots Fusiliers ; born at
Aberdeen, 15th April, 1885, residing in Elgin for 20 years ; joined at Aberdeen, 1st March,
1915 ; served in France, Egypt, and Palestine. Son of John and Emma Bourne, 7, South
Guildry Street, Elgin. Occupation, secretary.
BOWIE, Adam John. No. 985, Pte. ; born at Fochabers, Morayshire, 19th Jan., 1896 ; joined
at Fochabers, Morayshire, nth Feb., 191 1 ; served in France ; discharged disabled by gun-
shot wound in neck and spinal region. Son of Margaret Bowie. Occupation, gardener.
BOWIE, Alexander. No. 6436, Pte., A.S.C. and 1st Batt. Connaught Rangers ; born at Alves,
Morayshire, 17th Feb., 1891 ; joined at Perth, Nov., 1914 ; served in Mesopotamia. Son of
Alexander and Elsie Bowie, 87c, High Street, Elgin. Occupation, bookseller.
BOWIE, Alexander Watt. No. 27267, Pte., 3rd Seaforths, transferred to 7th Seaforths ; born
at Aberlour, Banffshire, 4th Oct., 1899 ; joined at Elgin, 29th May, 1918 ; served in France.
Son of William and Jessie Isabella Bowie, Farm Grieve, Jointure, Urquhart. Occupation,
farm servant.
BOWIE, Frederick William. No. 6637, Pte., Seaforth Highlanders ; born at Alves, Morayshire,
24th Oct., 1896 ; joined at Elgin, Nov., 1914 ; served in France ; killed at Arras, 9th April,
1917. Son of Alexander and Elsie Bowie, 87c, High Street, Elgin. Occupation, grocer.
