24th December 1661.
306. Right worschipfull, haveing seen a letter writtin from Lieutenant William
Hammilton, who sayes he was Lieutenant to Captain James Hamilton, sone to
Sir Frederick Hamiltoun, and calles himself administratour to the said Captain
Hamiltoun's sone, which letter is directed to your self, the laird is of Cwning-
hamhead, Rowallane, Cesnok, and to me and some others ; wherin (after some
expostulations of the great iniurie committed against him and the losses sus
teined by him) he demands reparation, as his letter doeth more fully proport ;
and requyres ane ansuer, which cannot be rightly done bot by joynt advyce of
such as he hes writtin to and ar concerned : which moved the laird of Cesnok,
who receaued his letter, and me to think it expedient that wee should meett
and resolue what ansuer is fitt to be returned to him. And a meetting being
appoynted for that end, to be at Kilhnarnock the secund day of Januar next,
I haue taken the boldnes to adverteis and desire yow would be pleased to be
at the paines to come to the said meetting at the tyme and place aforsaid :
