502. My Lord, your brother Gavin this day surprized me with the signification of a
warrand for citation of me with certain otheris for some injuries clone to your
brother Ochter in the yeare 1648 ; and the rather, for that I did suppose, vpon
speaking with your Lordship, that another proposale than moutioned hade been
more acceptable. Howsoever, your brother did me the favour to delay the
citation till Thursday at night, betwext and quliich time I might know your
minde. My Lord, I shall beg no other favour from your Lordship than quhat,
according to my power, in a time quhen it was seconded with authoritie, I did
willingly extend in your interest. I doe not take vpon me here to plead de-
fence as to the complaint ; but if at home your Lordship think good to take
materis in consideration, I shall not decline it, and shall entreat the significa-
tion of your pleasure to be communicat to Gavin. If I hade not caused a man
of mine, in whose hands I understand your brotheris horse was to be returned,
if I had in my handis, at any time, a horse or other gear quhatsoever, belong-
ing either to your brother or any souldier quhatsoever of his ; nay, if ther was
ever any of them that demanded from any of my people any thing that was
theiris and it was not restored, and if your Lordship had not at that time the
testimony of zeal in your service to keep off, nay, to take off, some of the bur-
