301. Right honorable brother, I did not wreit to yow by the last post, becaus I wold
have knoin somthing of yowr bussines, that I might have the honnor to acquant
yow with the same. Ther is as yet nothing aduanced in that matter, and Mr.
Fork and I am bothe affreied to meddil any thing in that matter til my Lord
Midilton be gon ; becaus Laderdail (as my Lord Lorn did asshure vs) is your
great freand, and he and Middilton are not wery great freands ; so that, as it
is thought, the on opposithe that quhat the other wold have. And my Lord
Lorn is of the oppinion that wee should speak to Sir Allexander Home, or to
Sir William Fleming, and desair on of them to supplicat his Majesty ; and
Laderdell, being advertised befor, wold back the matter. As for Mr. Hay,
whois aduice yow wold have vs to fallow, Mr. Fork is of the judgment that he
is not very cordiall, bothe becaus of some of his words to him, as also becaus
he is absolutly for the feinings. If it please yow, let me kno yowr adwyce,
and quhat yow wold have vs to do. His Majesty is to go shortly to Hampton
Court, quither Mr. Fork and I are resolved to go, that we may attend vpon
yowr bussines. I have given him 5 punds sterling, quhich he hes givin to Mr.
Metlan, who hes promised that he shall do quhat he can for yow. Let me beg
