276 FAMILY AND DOMESTIC LETTERS. [1640.
Robert first Earl of Nithisdaill to Sir Johne Maxuell of Pollok,
24th February 1640.
2 74. Louing cusin, I haue heere sent a power to taik up the bypast rentis. I desyer
if thare bee good seke, canaree or malgoe, cum in to Glasgow, to bye ane but
of it for mee, and cause draw it out in rubburs for four horse to carie, and sie
many horse of the Me-rins bring it to Crafurdjone Kirk ; and I sal haue horse
thare to resaue the sam, uhat dey yow giue mee notise ; and yow must cause
Adam More cum with it, that it be nocht drank out be the weye.
This band of reliefe goeth on in this cuntrie, bot very few or none as yeet
hath agreed to it : uhat wil becum of it I know noct. Tharis nothing talked
of bot peece ; for they haue left of to fortafie Cairlell. Uhat the Commissioners
haue done wee know nocht yeet. God gra[n]t al may end weall ! Soe I hertale
remain,

275. Louing nepheue, I haue this nicht reseued ane lettir from Poik, desayring me
to wreit to soum of my frindis thair for fordiring his beisines in the exchacher.
Bot I haue wreittin to him that I heue send in my mynd with zou, and ze
kno it was this, his caus is so iuist that I sal neuir weich anay of my frindis to
crois him, altho he neuir end weith zou : for in so douing I wold wrong them :
