They had two sons : —

(483) John Hamilton of Bardowie. Married, contract dated 14th September
1704, Marion, daughter of Robert Buchanan of Arnprior, and had : —
(a) John Hamilton of Bardowie, died unmarried 1739, and was
succeeded by his brother : — ■
(b) Robert Hamilton of Bardowie. Will recorded 9th May
1777 (Glasgow). Died s.p.
(c) James Hamilton. I „ ., ,. , . T

(e) Elizabeth Hamilton. She was served heir to her brothers,
John and Robert, 20th August 1757, and to her father
1 2th January 1759. She married Thomas Buchanan of
Spittel and Leny, who assumed the name of Hamilton.
Their descendants are still living.
Hrt110 recorded in Lyon Office, 18 10. — Gules, on a chevron
between three cinqiiefoils argent a boar's head couped of
the first, in the middle chief point an annulet or. [Plate

Authority — House of Hamilton.
(484) George Hamilton, said to be fifth son of David Hamilton of Cadzow
(No. 4), but no definite proof of the relationship has been found {Scots
Peerage). The next owner of Borland I can find is : —
(485) George Hamilton, Tutor of "Bordland," with John, his son, had a
remission for siding with the Earl of Lennox, 1551. He was a member
of Assize 4th November 1570 {Criminal Trials). The next is : —
(486) Patrick Hamilton of Borland, father of : —
(487) William Hamilton of Borland, who was served heir to his father 26th
January 1611.
Hri1l0 recorded in Lyon Office, 1700-19, to Alexander Hamilton of Inver-
dovat, only child of Gavin Hamilton of Cleland and Isobel Hamilton,
heiress of Inverdovat, said to be descended from Borland. — 1 and 4.
Gules, a crescent argent between three cinquefoils ermine, witliin a bordure
embattled or. 2 and 3. Argent, on a chevron sable between three boars'
heads erased gules, armed of the second, a crescent of the first. [Plate VI.,
fig. 7.] Crest : A trunk of an oak tree sprouting. Motto : "Hi/ic
orior."
