(b) Quintin Hamilton. Married Anne, daughter of Thomas
Hutton, and had : —

(458) William Hamilton. Married, first, Margaret Hill, of Musselburgh, and

He married, second, Anne Story, who brought him the lands of
Bothwell Park, and had issue : —

(459) JAMES HAMILTON. Married Beatrice Wood of Ednam, and had a son : —
(460) Robert William Hamilton. Married Janet, daughter of William Hunter
of Glenormiston.

(461) JAMES HAMILTON, second son of Claud Hamilton (No. 453). Married
Marion, daughter of John Hamilton of Orbiston, and had : —
(462) John Hamilton of Bangour. Married, first, Elizabeth, daughter of George
Dundas of that Ilk, by whom he had two daughters. He married, second,
Margaret, daughter of James Hamilton of Westport, and had : —
(a) John (No. 463).
(b) James (No. 464).
(c) Rev. Alexander Hamilton. Appointed to Dalmeny 2nd
July 1656; to Dalserf 7th March 1677; and to High
Church, Edinburgh, 24th July 1689. Died December
1696. He married, first, Anna Scott, who died 1st
October 1691 ; and, second, Helen Eliot (Scott's Fasti).
This authority is not certain of his parentage, but asserts
he was brother-german of Sir William Hamilton of
Whitelaw.
(d) Dr Thomas Hamilton.
HriTlS recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Gules, a mullet
between tliree cinquefoils argent, on a chief of the second a
martlet of the first. [Plate VI., fig. 3.] CREST: A ship
in distress proper. MOTTO : "Per varios casus."
(e) Sir William Hamilton of Whitelaw, who became Lord
Justice-Clerk in 1697. Died s.p.
HmiS recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Gules, a mullet
between three cinquefoils argent, on a chief of the second
an annulet of the first. [Plate VI., fig. 4.] CREST : A
ship in distress proper. MOTTO : "Littore sis tarn."
(463) John Hamilton of Bangour. Will recorded 31st January 1678 (Edin-
burgh). He was served heir to his father 17th October 1663. Died s.p.
Hmt0 recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Gules, a mullet, between three
cinquefoils argent a chief of the second. [Plate VI., fig. 2.] CREST : A
ship in distress proper. MOTTO : "Littora specto."
He was succeeded by his brother : —
