Margaret Hamilton was served heir to her father and grandfather 6th
and 16th March 1602. The next was : —
(376) JAMES Hamilton OF Peill. Married Isabel Ross. Her Will recorded
5th February 1630 (Glasgow).
Ardoch.
Authority — House of Hamilton,
(377) Andrew Hamilton of Ardoch, Ayrshire, second son of James Hamilton
(No. 360). He married, first, Catherine Park, and, second, Margaret
Stewart. He had a charter of the lands of Ardoch from the Abbot of
Kilwinning. The next was : —
(378) Gavin Hamilton of Ardoch, living 1566, who was followed by: —
(379) James Hamilton of Ardoch, who had a charter of the lands of Ruchbank,
Crummock, Ardoch, etc., 10th January 1583. He was succeeded by his
son : —
(380) Gavin Hamilton of Ardoch. Served heir to his father 13th November
1633. He apparently died shortly after, as his Will was recorded
8th November 1636 (Glasgow). His son : —
(381) JAMES Hamilton of Ardoch, was served heir to his father 4th August
1637. In 1643 he sold Ruchbank and Crummock to William Ralston.
He married Janet, daughter of William Hamilton of Dalserf, and had : —
(382) William Hamilton of Ardoch, who married a daughter of Alexander,
Commendator of Kilwinning, and had issue: —
(a) John (No. 383).
{b) William Hamilton of Ladyland (No. 384).
(383) John Hamilton of Ardoch, died s.p., and was succeeded by his brother : —
Ladyland.
Authorities — House of Hamilton and Burke's Landed Gentry.
(384) Captain William Hamilton of Ladyland, died 1690. He had a charter
of Ardoch in 1665. He married Janet Brisbane, and had : —
(a) John (No. 385).
(J?) William Hamilton of Gilbertfield. He was a poet, and died
at Letterick 24th May 175 1.
Smi9 recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Gules, a mullet between three cinque-
foils argent, within a bordure wavy of the last. [Plate V., fig. 9.] CREST :
A dolphin pursuing another fish in the water proper. MOTTO : "Honestum
pro patria."
(385) John Hamilton of Ladyland. Served heir to his father 3rd September
1690. He sold Ladyland about 17 12 to the Earl of Eglinton. He
