THE HAMILTONS OF PARKHEAD 37
(no) Sir James Hamilton of Broomhill. Will recorded 4th March 1663
(Hamilton and Campsie). He married Margaret, daughter of William
Hamilton of Udston, and had issue : —
(a) Sir John (No. m).
(b) James (No. 112).
(c) Claud (No. 113).
(in) Sir John Hamilton of Broomhill and Biel, died 17th June 1679. On
15th December 1647 he was created LORD BELHAVEN AND STENTOUN,
but on 10th February 1675 the title was re-granted to him with remainder
to the husband of one of his grand-daughters (see below). He married
Margaret, natural daughter of James, second Marquis of Hamilton, and
had issue : —
(a) A son, died about 1661.
(b) Margaret Hamilton, died 18th March 1674. She married
Sir Samuel Baillie, younger of Lamington, and had
issue.
(c) Anne Hamilton, married Sir Robert Hamilton of Silverton-
hill, Bt. (No. 142), and had with other issue: —
(1) Margaret Hamilton. Married John Hamilton
of Biel, who, under the special remainder,
became second Lord Belhaven (see No. 329).
(112) James Hamilton of Broomhill, second son of Sir James Hamilton
(No. no), born August 1610; died 14th August 1674. Appointed
Minister of Cambusnethan in 1634, and became Bishop of Galloway,
1661. He married, 26th August 1635, Margaret, only daughter of Rev.
Alexander Thomson, of Edinburgh. She died 16th April 1667 (Scott's
Fasti), leaving: —
(a) Alexander Hamilton.
(b) James Hamilton, Advocate, of Broomhill, died s.p. September
1675, and was succeeded by his brother : —
(c) John Hamilton of Broomhill, retoured to his father and
brother, 7th April 1681. He was succeeded by his sister.

Jean, daughter of Arthur Hamilton of Parkhead, and had issue : —
(a) James (No. 1 14).

(114) James Hamilton of Parkhead. Married Jean, daughter of Rev. Andrew
Morton, and had : —
(115) Major Andrew Hamilton of Parkhead. Married Margaret Hamilton,
of Bangour, and died s.p. 1728.
