954• Enlisted Boys' Championships were first held at Aldershot
with z events : too yards Free Style and an Inter-Unit
Team Relay Race (4

Yards).
As a result of a legacy bequeathed to the Army Swimming
Union by Brigadier I. L. H. Mackillop, C.B.E. a silver
trophy to be known as the " Mackillop Bowl " was presented
to be held by the winners of the Boys Inter-Unit Team Relay
Race for one year.

1956. Inter-Unit Life Saving Competition for Units at home
instituted.
Army Inter-Unit Swimming Runners-Up Cup formerly
the Gethin-Jones Hockey Challenge Cup for British Troops
in the Sudan presented.
Combined Services One Mile Championship was dis-
continued, and 88o yards Free Style substituted in the
Inter Services and Army Championships.
Air Marshal Sir John Whitworth-Jones Cup re-allocated
and awarded to the winners of the Inter-Services Water
Polo Championship.
1957. Enlisted Boys' Championships. A Medley Relay

Services match against the A.S.A. was arranged and televised.

Championships was included in the Championships. The
Sir Richard Butler Cup was awarded for the event. En-
listed Boys' Championships. An Inter-Unit Water Polo
Championship was included. Combined Services v.
A.S.A. match was again arranged.
The Army Swimming Union has an annual fixture with the Civil
Service and much useful competition and experience has been gained
by Army Swimmers and Water Polo players through the arrange-
ment of Swimming and Water Polo matches with the Otter
Swimming Club, the Kent and Surrey Swimming Associations
etc.
RULES OF THE UNION
Title
I.
The title shall be The Army Swimming Union.
Objects
2.
The objects of the Union shall be
(a) The encouragement of Swimming, Diving, Life Saving and
Water Polo in the Army.
(b) The management of Army Swimming Championships.
(c) The promotion of correct methods
(I)
of instruction in
Swimming, Diving, Life Saving and Water Polo, and
(2)
of carrying out competitions in the above.
