| Description | A detachment of troops with bicycles which they are wheeling, heavily laden with kit, through the streets of Cologne. Women and children are standing on the pavement watching them and waving white papers or cloths. It is not clear what these are; possibly white cloths of surrender or possibly papers about the Armistice terms. As soon as the war was over all the soldiers on both sides wanted to get home quickly. There were even mutinies among British, American and Canadian troops who felt the process was too slow. [Original reads: 'No. IA/57575. Photographs of the demobilization.
