| Description | Royal Canadian Artillery, Western Front, during World War I. Soldiers looking at a tractor which appears to have fallen into a shell hole. Another tractor can be seen behind and one man is carrying timbers towards the stuck machine, so it would appear they are about to pull it out backwards. The gun, which the tractor may have been pulling, can just be seen in the foreground. The shoulder badges of the two men nearest the camera bear the letters, 'RCA', which stands for the Royal Canadian Artillery. 44,000 Canadian Gunners signed up during the war, of whom 38,000 served overseas, many of them on the Western Front.
