1G4 CLAR TOISICHl REACHD.
The Editor was the nieans of constituting three Gaelic
s])eaking clubs in Glasgow. The first in 1790 ; the second
in 1795 ; and the third in the year 1800. The two first
were discontinued without any cause than the restriction
the members lay under to paj afine, if they did not attend
once every week during the winter season, and once a
month during summer, besides a small fine was imposed
on any stationary member (hoTiorary excepted) who spoke
Enghsh for the first hour after sitting.
The third being instituted in February 1800, to consist
of no more than 25 selected gentlemen, chosen unani-
mously, who continued together happily and harmoniously
for 18 years, untill various causes incident to human life,
reduced ihe members to a few, who with much reluctance
gave it up.
The following feeble compositions are copied from the
Club Book, as composed by the first President (Donnacha'
mac-brian borra mac a Cheanneididh) of the association.

Ann so tlia diclieall fann a chomain og-,
G ii'n teanga mhaitlireil chur an gna's mar's eoir.
A mearachd dhoibh cho'n iul,— gidhea' 's e
miann,
An toil a nochdadh, ann an aite ghniamli.
*S a thaisbeanadh mar 's leir, — gur labhrach,
binn,
A chanain Ghailic, fea* gach ail is linn.
Chum aoradh Dhe — no athchuing gheur no
bron,
Cho'n eil fo'n ghrein na thig ri re gu coir.
Tha i libhidh, laidir, leadara ri luagh,
" 'S tha bri gach facaill ceart mar chluìnnear
fhuaim."
