Vien la guerra talor; s' alzau le tombe
Dei prodi e dei stranieri : ah padri miei
Che prò? s'a un tempo sol s'alzan pur anco
Le tombe al popol miol Solo una volta
Di rimaner senza i miei fidi io tema.
Ma rimarrò famoso, ed a seconda
Entro un rio limpidissimo di luce
Scorrerà l'alma mia placida e leve (i) .
Latmo, vattene omai, rivolgi altrove
Il suon dell'armi tue; famosa in terra
È la stirpe di Selma, e i suoi nemici
Figli non 5on d'avventurali padri.
