MARYCULTER parish lies on the-
south. side of the Dee, extending from that
river to the Grampians, and is about 5>
miles south-west from Aberdeen ; it is in
Kincardineshire poor combination, and of
an oblong form, being 6 miles in length by
2 in breadth, and containing an area of
7,826 statute acreB. The land adjacent tc-
the river is partly low and fertile, but
southward it is uneven and rocky and 1
stony. The district is well wooded, and here-
and there are some thriving plantations.
The population of the parish in 1891 was-
about 1,024, and in 1901, 951. The area,,
as altered by the Boundary Commissioners,
is 7,826 acres; rateable value, £7,734.
St. Mary's Roman Catholic College, Blair&
was founded & endowed by Mr. Menzies,
of Petfodels, in the year 1829; the col-
lege has recently (1903) been entirely
rebuilt, and the Chapel of St. Mary
added, at a cost of considerably over
£30,000; there are at present 83 stu-
