and is bounded north by Collassie and
Cults, east by Largo, south by Eennoway
and Harkinch, and west by Falkland. The
name of Kingskettle, by which the village
is now called, has arisen from its being
the property of the Crown. This district
forms a large portion of the rich and
beautiful territory on the north side of the
Bow of Fife. The river Eden bounds the
parish on nearly the whole of the northern
side. The manufacture of linen is the
principal trade carried on here. A fire
engine is maintained here by public sub-
scription ; the brigade consists of a cap-
tain and seven firemen. The cemetery,
opened in 1896, is under the management
of the parish council, and contains a
beautiful marble monument, erected by H.
V. Haig esq. of Eamornie, to the memorv
af his wife, Archie Anne Lindsay Fraser.

The area comprises 7,612 acres; rateable
value, £10,482; the population in 1801,
1,030, and in 1901 was 1,759 in the parish
and 455 in the village.
Kettlebridge is a village in this parish,
about one mile south of the church, and
about half .a mile from the village is the
hamlet of Balmalcolm, where there is a
Free Church. The population in 1001 was

KILCONaUHAR is a parish and vil-
lage, with a station on the Thornton junc-
tion, Anstruther and SLAndrew's section, of
the North British railway, is 4 miles east of
Largo and 10 south of St. Andrew's. The
parish is in the small debt court district of
Anstruther, and contains the village of
Colinsburgh (which see) ; it extends about 6
miles from north to south by a breadth vary-
ing from 2 to 3 miles, and is bounded south
by Elie, west by Newburn and Largo, north
by Ceres and Cameron, and east bv Carnbee.
Until the 15th May, 1891, the royal burgh
of Earlsferry was in Kilconquhar parish,
but the Boundary Commissoners then trans-
ferred a detached portion of Elie parish(con-
sisting of Muircambus and part of Charlston
estates) to Kilconquhar, aQd in exchange
gave to Elie parish all the land formerly
belonging to Kilconquhar to the south of
Cockle Mill Burn and the North British
railway. This area included the burqh oi
Earlsferry, which now forms part of Elie
parish. Coal and lime are found in the
parish. The church has a fine square tower
80 feet high. Balcarres House, the seat of
the Earl of Crawford K.T., V.D. and about
f ne mile north of Colinsburgh, is a mansion
in the Tudor style, situated on a southern
slope about 3 miles from the sea-coast; Kil-
conquhar House is the residence of the Earl
of Lindsay, and Charleton House, of Col.
John Anstruther-Thomson D.L., J.P.,
V.D. Balcarres Craig, near Balcarres
House, is a remarkable hill, rising
abruptly 200 feet above the level of the
land. Kilconquhar Loch is a fine sheet
of water, three-quarters of a mile in
[slater's
length and nearly the same in breadth, and
about 2 miles in circumference, with two
small islands, which harbour swans and wild
fowl. The Earl of Crawford and the Earl
of Lindsay, Col. John Anstruther-Thomson,
William Baird esq. and trustees of the
late David Adams esq. are the principal
landowners. The area comprises 6,633
acres; rateable value £12,492 (gross). The
population in 1391 was 1,746, and in 1901,
of the parish, 1.517, including 317 in
Earlsferry and of the village, 334.

KILMAjSTT is a parish and village, the
latter 5 miles north of Cupar, and 5 south-
west of Newport The parish, which is in
the small debt court district of Cupar, ex-
tends 6 miles from north-east to south-west
by a breadth varying from 1 to 3 miles ; it is
bounded north by Balmerino, north-east by
Forgan, fast by Logie. south by Cupar and
west by Creich. Cupar is the nearest rail-
way station for the south of the parish, and
is on the North British main line; the near-
est station to Kilmany village is St. Fort,
on the same system. With the exception
of a few acres which are chiefly
woodland, the entire parish is in a high
state of cultivation, being well watered
and drained by numerous streams. In 1680,
