Plater's
Dron, a parish in the south-eastern extremitv of j on the rising ground to the left, on approaching the
Perth-hire, ex'ending into the beautiful district nf| Bridge of Earn from the south.
Strathearn is divided from Abernethy, on the east by
the rivulet Karg, Although in some parts the surface
is broken and irregular,in the lower part the land is fiat
and frttile,being a portion of the rich carseof the Earn.
The church, a handsome Gothic edifice, is a fine object
POST OFFICE, Abernethy, Andrew Peddie, Post Master. — Letters arrive every morning, by foot
post (from Newburgh), at half-past ten; and are despatched thereto at two in the afternoon.
Arngask is a parish lying between Abernethy and
Forgandenny, and partly in the counties of Perth,
Fife, and Kinross. The country here is hilly, and
more pastoral than arable.

J-S a manufacturing town and burgh of barony, in the
parish of its name, which latter is mostly in this
count' nd extends into of that Forfar, 62 miles N.
*• iburgh, 20 n. from Perth, 15 n. by w. from
Dun ..^i 2 w. from Forfar, 5 from Blairgowrie, and
3§ from,' Meigle pleasantly situated at the base of a
range of aiJos, on the smalt river Alyth, A branch line
of railway is in course of construction to join the
Scottish North Eastern line at Meigle station. The
manufacture of brown linens is carried on here to a
considerable extent, and there is a mill for the manu-
facture of woollens. It was erected into a burgh or
barony by James III ; and a baron baillie court is held
on the first Tuesday in every month. The pans is
divided into two considerale districts by the hills of
Alyth Loyal and Barry. Mount Blair, a conspicuous
point of land, rises about twelve hundred feet above
level of the sea. The parish is watered by the river
Isla, and several smaller streams. The southern dis-
trict, lying in the strath, is about four miles long and
three broad, this, as well as the tract of land towards
the hills, is fertile a .d verdant.
The places of worship are the parish church (which
has a lofty spire), a tree church, and United Presby-
terian ami Episcopalian chapels. The markets are held
on the following days, on the third Tuesday in May,
cattle, sheep, and hiring; the second Tuesday in June,
(old style), cattle and sheep ; the first Tuesday in
August,' cattle and sheep; the first Tuesday and
Wednesday in November, cattle, sheep, and hiring ;
the second Tuesday after the 11th of November, (oh'
I style), cattle and sheep.
