lop,' a large quantity. is made here annually. There is
also a considerable trade in meal carried on by thein-
' habitants of the village, ar.d surrounding territory
Dunlop House, in this parish, the seat of Thomas
Dunlop Dougla/', Esq., is one of handsomest mansions
i»f the county ; on this estate, resting on a small knoll,
is a stone of large dimensions, called the ' O'Great
Stone,' supposed to have been employed in some
ancient rites of worship. Two fairs for the sale of
dairy stock, are held — one about the middle of May,
the other on the 12th of November j both are generally
well attended.
POST OFFICE, John Picken, Post Muster. — Letters from London and all England. Edin-
burgh; Glasgow, Paisley, North and West of Scotland, also from Ireland, arrive every morning at
Jbtalf-past eight; and ate despatched thereto, at half-past four hi the afternoon.
