ALLOA YOUNG MEN'S MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT
SOCIETY.
Instituted 8tli Septembei', 1875.
President, A. W. Breingan ; Vice-President, John S.
Middleton ; Secretary, David Buchan ; Treasurer, G. Jack ;
Committee, W. Cummings, D. Johnstone, E. M. Hill, and J.
Tait. Meets in the Christian Institute every Wednesday
evening, at 8 o'clock, for the purpose of debating questions
political, ecclesiastical, social, &c., and hearing essays, readings,
recitations, &c., by the different members of the club.
Membership, about 30.
ALVA MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION.
Instituted 16th April, 1861.
Object — Mental culture, and the attainment of useful
knowledge. The affairs of the Association are conducted by a
committee of seven, including chairman, Jas. Small ; treasurer,
David Poustie ; secretary, Jas. Paterson. The members meet
in the Infant School every Monday and Friday evening. The
use of the School has been kindly granted to the Association
by James Johnstone, Esq. , for the study of Grammar, Arith-
metic, Geography, History, Phonography, &c. One night
every month devoted to Essay Reading and Debate. A library
in connection with the Association, which contains 300 vols.—

TULLIBODY DISTRICT LIBRARY.
The Library, denominated " Tullibody District Library,"
instituted in 1862, by the Young Men's Christian Association,
contains 400 volumes. The Library is placed in the school, and
the books are given out every Monday evening. The property
is vested in the hands of the following trustees : — Messrs John
Paterson, Robert Knox, James Kirk, Robert Moubray,
William Aikman, the Minister of the Free Church, and the
Teacher of the Public School for the time being. Besides the
addition of new works yearly, a box of books is obtained on loan
from London at stated periods.
THE ALLOA BURNS CLUB.
This Club was founded on the 25th Jan., 1859, on the occasion
of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of our National Poet.
