The Eight Hon. Wm. Patrick Adam, of Blairadam, M.P.,
for the United Counties of Clackmannan and Kinross, eldest
son of the late Admiral Sir Charles Adam, K.C.B. of Blair-
adam, Governor of Greenwich Hospital, and n:iany years M.P.
for the United Counties, by Elizabeth his wife, daughter of
the late Patrick Brydone, Esq., F.K.S., h. in 1823, m. in 1856
Emily, eldest daughter of General Sir William Wyllie, K.C.B.,
and has issue three sons, Charles Elphinstone, William Keith,
and Frederick, and one daughter, Clementina. Mr Adam,
who was educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge,
B.A., 1847, was called to the bar of the Inner Temple in 1850,
was Secretary to the late Lord Elphinstone, when Governor of
Bombay from 1853 to 1858, was Scotch Lord of the Treasury
from April 1865 till June 1866; and in October, 1873, was
appointed Paymaster-General of Her Majesty's Forces, and First
Commissioner of Works, under the Gladstone Administration.
MoNCRiEFF, Rev. William Scott, succeeded his father
Robert Scott Moncrieff, Esq., on 18tb June 1869, who was
eldest son of William Scott Moncrieff, Esq., of Fossoway, by
Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Hogg, Esq., of Edinburgh, born
1793, succeeded 1846, married first 1820, Susan, daughter of
Alex. Pringle, Esq., of Whitebank and Selkirk, second, in 1851,
Mary, daughter of Robert Hamilton, Esq., and has, with other
issue, William, in Holy Orders, M.A. of Trinity College, Cam-
bridge, born 1825, married 1850, Hannah youngest daughter of
Robert Overton, Esq., of Leicester. The name of Moncrieff was
assumed by Mr Scott Moncrieff's grandfather, Robert Scott,
Esq., of Couts, Fifeshire, on his marriage with Miss Moncrieff,
who was heiress of Rhind.
