LETTER-PRESS PRINTING MACHINERY.
PRINTERS an<TpROPRIETORS of
NEWSPAPERS are respectfully informed,
that they may be supplied, with the utmost promp-
titude, and on economic terms, with Machinery
suitable for every description of Book, Newspaper,
and Jobbing Work.
The Machines now submitted to the Trade are
manufactured upon the most approved principles,
and consist of the best materials and workmanship.
In their general construction, they resemble those
which have been manufactured for some years
past in London, and which have been sold at prices
varying from £700 to £1000 each, and upwards;
but in substantiality, and general excellence of
make and finish, they are incomparably superior to
the London machines.
Machinery of this description can be manufac-
tured in Scotland both cheaper and better than it
can in London ; and, with the view of bringing it
into more general use — its price having hitherto
been all but prohibitory to houses of ordinary
extent of business — the Subscriber has entered
into an arrangement with a highly respectable and
extensive manufacturing house, (James Brown of
Kirkaldy,) possessed of every facility for making
these Machines in the best, as well as in the
cheapest, manner ; into the construction of which,
also, several important improvements have been
introduced.
A small Steam Engine of first rate quality, suit-
able for these Machines, is furnished by the same
manufacturer for the sum of £60 or £70, accord-
ing to the style of finish.
Two of Mr Brown's Machines being now erected
in Edinburgh — the one in the office of Mr Andrew
Shortrede, and the other in that of Mr John John-
stone of the Edinburgh Chronicle, their decided
superiority to any thing of the kind previously
manufactured, may at once be ascertained by a
personal inspection of them, and of the work which
they produce. JOHN GRAY.

EDINBURGH INSTITUTION FOR LAN-
GUAGES, MATHEMATICS, &c.
H E Premises formerly occupied
not affording sufficient accommodation for
the increased number of Pupils, Mr Cunningham
has taken that Large and Commodious House, No.
3, HILL STREET, to which the Classes were
Removed on 1st May last.
Young Gentlemen, who have been attending the
Junior Classes at College during the Session now
about to close, may find it advantageous to continue
their Classical and Mathematical Studies, or to
attend Classes for Modern Languages, in the Insti-
tution during the College Vacation.

applying at the Institution, or at Mr Cunning-
ham's House, 6, Hill street.
ADVERTISING & NEWS AGENCY OFFICE,
AT THE OBSERVER OFFICE, 28, HANOVER STREET.
RS ROBERTSON (Widow of the
late David Robertson, Advertising Agent
in Edinburgh,) and Mr W. D. SCOTT, beg to
intimate, that the Advertising and News Agency
continues to be conducted by Mr Scott, as usual,
at No. 28, Hanover street, under the firm of
Robertson and Scott.
AS ADVERTISING AGENTS, Robertson &
Scott undertake the insertion of Advertisements,
not only in all the Edinburgh Newspapers, but
also in the London and Edinburgh Gazettes,
and every other Newspaper in the United Kingdom.
This Establishment is calculated to afford great
facilities, and to save much trouble and delay to
Gentlemen of the law, Merchants, and Men of
Business generally ; for, by one order to Robert-
son and Scott, an Advertisement may be conveyed
to every Newspaper in the Empire, and the accounts
settled by them as charged by the respective Papers,
(with the exception of the London Newspapers,)
without any Commission or extra expense- to the
Advertiser ; their profit, as Agents, being derived
from a Commission allowed by the Newspapers.
By this means also, in place of Agents having to
pay each individual Newspaper, they have only one
account to settle with R. & S. who will always be
ready to furnish the respective prices of Advertise-
ments, when required.
Files of the different Newspapers, in which Ad-
vertisements are ordered to be inserted, are regu-
larly kept for the inspection of all concerned.
AS NEWS AGENTS, Robertson and Scott
supply LONDON NEWSPAPERS at the usual
prices ; and from arrangements which they have
lately made with a News Agent in London, they can
ensure the regular delivery of Papers.
All Orders from the Country must be accom-
panied by a respectable reference in Town.
