The distinguishing principle of this Society is, That the Benefits resulting from its
transactions shall be enjoyed by the Members during Life, so as to render Life Assurance
as easy to the Assured as a due regard to security will admit.
The Surplus or Profit (a minute investigation of the affairs being first made) is
distributed amongst the Policy-holders annually and in money. The first Division
was made in 1845, and the Payments to the Policy-holders have been as follows : — ■
In 1845, 1846, and 1847, thirty per cent, of the premiums ; in 1848, 1849, and 1850,
thirty-five per cent, of the premiums. The following are examples of the sums which
have thus been paid : —
