HERRING FISHERY.
Various important privileges are granted to Herring Curers and
Fishers, by the Magistrates and Harbour Trustees, for the encourage-
ment of this fishery ; which will be communicated, and every infor-
mation afforded, on application to the Town-Clerk, or to Mr. Riddel,
Harbour Office, Quay. In general, we may state that salt for curing
the herrings is imported free of dues ; the herrings, when cured, are
also exempted from dues when shipped ; and ground is given, free,
for drying the fishermen's nets.
