THE SCOTTISH AMICABLE
CAPITAL SUMS ASSURED, ACCUMULATED FUNDS, ANNUAL INCOME, NUMBER OF POLICIES,
£5,000,000. £1,200,000. £200,000. 11,000.
THIS Life Assurance Office being purely MUTUAL, the WHOLE PROFITS
BELONG TO THE ASSURED. The Society has endeavoured to place its Eates
and Eules on the most equitable and liberal footing ; and its affairs are administered by
Directors whose interests are identified with those of the Assured.
The Bonus declared by the Society, as at 31st December 1853 and 1860, has been so high
as at the rate of Ji, 15s. for each year, for every £100 assured, not only on the original sum
in the Policy, but also on Additions which are accumulated at each Septennial Investigation.
And the practice of the Society is to provide for Members, dying between the Investigations,
similar Additions at the rate of l^ per cent.
Another Investigation takes place as at 31st December 1867; and it was stated by the
Chairman at the recent Annual Meeting that there is every reason to anticipate that a Bonus
of at all events ^1, 10s. per cent, per annum will be declared both on original sums Assured
and previous Additions.
"DATES ADVANTAGEOUS FOR ADVANCED LIVES.— The Eates charged by this Society
■^^ at advanced ages are greatly less than those of other Offices generally ; the Scottish
Amicable Eate at age 60 being so much as 1 8 per cent, less than that of some other Offices.
The Directors of the Society undoubtedly exercise great caution in accepting such Lives to
see that they are very select ; but, this being attended to, it is considered that, coupled with
the system of allocation of Additions, according to the result of the careful investigation into
the mortality of select lives, made by the Manager at various times, the Eates at all ages —
say at 20, 40, and 60 — are duly proiDortioned according to the risks run. And it does not
require to be pointed out that, while these Eates continue, it is to an office such as this that
select Advanced Lives should make their Proposals. The following are the
Annual Life Premiums for £100 at Ages 51 to 60 under Class with Additions, and also under

ADVANTAGES HAVING SPECIAL REFERENCE TO YOUNG LIVES. — The Table of
-^ Eates for Education Assurance, introduced by this Society, provides a means, at a
very trifling cost, of securing for Children, in the event of the death of their fathers, Annuities
till they reach the age of eighteen.
