CHARITABLE AND FRIENDLY INSTITUTION .
CLAN MACKAY SOCIETY.
The objects of the society shall be the fostering
and preserving of clan sentiment ; the cultivation of
social intercom-se amon? the members ; the rendering
of assistance to deserving clansmen; the encoui'aj^e-
ment of education ; and the collecting and preserving
of records and traditions bearing on the history of
the clan. The society shall be called " The Clan
Mackay Society ; " shall be non-political and non-
sectarian; and shall consist of (1) persons bearing the
surname Mackay, by birth or marriage ; (2) persons
bearing any of the names of the various clan septs,
or related to the clan bv descent, shall be admitted
as " Associates," but shall not be eligible to hold
office, or entitled to vote at any of the meetings, or
derive any benefit from the funds of the society.
The Sept names are as follows : — Mackie, Bain (in its
various forms). Poison, Macpbail, Mackee or Mackey,
Macghie, Neilson, MacCrie, MacCay, &c. The mem-
bership is of three classes, viz., life members, who shall
make one payment of £3 3s.; extraordinary members,
10s. 6d. ; and ordinary members, 2s. 6d. annually.
The ordinary meetings are held alternately in Glasgow,
in the Religious Institution Rooms, 200 Buchanan
Street, and Edinburgh, at 5 St. Andrew Sqnare, on
the third Thursday of each month, from October to
April inclusive.

A member of this society who has been 12 months
enrolled, on being rendered unfit for work by disease,
accident, or infirmity, is entitled to receive £1 per week;
which allowance, while total incapacity continues, is
not reduced during life. On the death of a member
who has been 12 months enrolled, the society pays
£10 as funeral allowance. Applicants for member-
ship must be engaged in commercial or professional
pursuits, and either resident or travelling in Scotland.
GLASGOW MISSION TO THE ADULT
DEAF AND DUMB.
Established 1822.
Objects — 1. To provide extended Religious and
Secular Instmction among the Deaf and Dumb
throughout Glasgow and the West of Scotland, after
they have quitted School. 2. To visit the sick, un-
employed, and other Deaf and Dumb persons at their
homes. 3. To assist the Deaf and Dumb who have
good characters in obtaming employment. 4. To
provide an Interpreter where necessary. 5. To grant
relief in cases found to be really deserving.

HAMILTON'S ANNUITY FUND.
Under the Act the trustees pay the sum of £2 per
annum, to be given in clothing as a prize to the suc-
cessful competitor at the Annual Ploughing Match in
the parish of Cathcart; and annuities of £4 each to
decayed natives and residenters of forty years and up-
wards in the Barony of Gorbals of Glasgow, such
persons being not under the age of sixty- five years.
Said Annuities may, under certain circumstances, be
increased until the same shall amount to £8.

GLASGOW DAY-NURSERIES ASSOCIATION.
The nurseries are — 21 MTntyre St., Anderston;
29 Dahnarnock Road, Bridgeton ; 54 Maitland Street,
Cowcadd>-ns; 6 Wilson Street, Partick; 3 South
Wellington Place, Hutchesontown; and 31 Leaden
Street, Marjhill Children whose parents require to
leave them to go out to work, as in the case of widows,
widowers, deserted mothers, &c., are cared for in
the nurseries. A charge of 3d. per day is made for
each child, but the Association requires over £500
per annum from the public to carry on its work.

THE GLASGOW INSTITUTION FOR ORPHAN
AND DESTITUTE GIRLS
(HoMK: The Orphanage, 21 Westland Drive
Whiteinch). Establithed 1826.
Its object is to rescue orphan and destitute girls of
tender years, and give them an education and up-
bringing fitting them for good domestic servants.
