APPENDIX
The Rates of Police Assessment at present are —
For Lands or Premises rented or valued under £3, ... 6^-d. per £
For Do. Do. at £3 and under £5, 9|d. per £
For Do. Do. at £5 and upwards, Is. Id per £
Street Improvement Assessment, ^-d. on Landlord and ^d. on Tenant.
The Assessment under the Public Health. Act is jd. on Landlord,
and |-d. on Tenant.
When the fractional part of a Pound of the Assessable yearly rent
or value of Lands or Premises does not amount to 10s. it is not
Assessed at all ; and When such fractional part amounts to or
exceeds 10s., it is Assessed as £1.
The following Lands or Premises are Assessed on one-fourth of
their annual value entered in the Valuation Eoll, viz. : — ■
1. All Lauds and Premises used exclusively as a Canal or Basin of
a Canal, or Towing path for the same, or as a Railway constructed,
under the powers of any Act of Parliament for Public conveyance,
excepting the Stations, Depots, and Buildings, which are Assessable
to the same extent as other Lands and Premises within the Police
Bounds.
2. All the under ground Gas and Water Pipes, or under ground
Works of any Gas or Water Company.
3. All Woodlaud, Arable,, Meadow, or Pasture Ground, or other
Ground used for Agricultural purposes.
PARLIAMENTARY BOUNDARIES.
1st Ward— All within a line drawn as follows, viz., from the Moss toll
on the Greenock road, along the centre of the Greenock road, south-
ward to a point opposite to the centre of the north road of the Race •
Course leading westward from the Graenock road, thence along the
centre of that road to the centre of the road that intersects the Race
Course road, thence southward alongthe centre of that intersecting
road and the road iu a line therewith, passing West March to the
centre of the Greeuhill road, thence westward along that road to a
poiut opposite to the centre of the north end of Lonewells street
thence southward along the centre of that street to a point iu the
centre of Wellmeadow street, thence westward along the centre of
that street to a point opposite to the centre of the North end of
Castle street, thence southward along the centre of that street to the
south end thereof, thence southward along the centre of Ralston
square to the north end of the street or avenue leading to Castlehead,
thence south ward along the centre of that avenue to a point opposite
to the north-east corner of the mansion-house of Castlehead, thence
to the north-east corner of the said mansion-house, thence iu a direct
Sine southward to the point where the Parliamentary line intersects
the Espedair Burn near Haircraigs, thence along the Parliamentary
boundary westward, northward, and eastward to the point first
described.
