Objects. — The objects of this Society are to encour-
age the study and practice of tactics, the discussion
of military subjects, and the promotion of social inter-
course among the officers of the various branches of
the auxiliary forces in the West of Scotland.

The object of the Society is the advancement of the
science of geology by means of periodical Meetings for
its study, the reading and discussion of original Papers
on subjects illustrative of geology or its allied Sciences,
the exhibition and descriptiim of Specimens, the de-
livery of lecturei during winter, and by excursions in
summer.
Life membership, £5 5s. ; ordinary, 10s. per annum
(entitling member to a copy of Transactions as pub-
lished) ; associate (who must be a student attending
a geological class), 2s. 6d. per annum.
The Society meets in the Philosophical Society
Rooms, 207 Bath Street, on the second Thursday of
each month from October to May ; and excursions are
made to suitable geological localities during the spring
and summer months.
THE SCOTTISH LAND RESTORATION UNION.
Head office, 56 George Square.
Object. — The restoration of the land to the people
by the imposition of a single tax on the value of the
land, apart from improvements, thereby relieving in-
dustry of all taxation, and openiog up natural oppop-
tunities to labour.
THE RUSKIN SOCIETY OF GLASGOW,
SOCIETY OF THE ROSE.
Instituted 1879.
Aims — (I) To encourage and promote the study
and circulation of Mr. Ruskin's writings; (2) to
form a centre of union for " Ruskin Students ; " and
(3) to promote such life and learning as may fitly
and usefully abide in this country.
The annual subscription is 2s. 6d. for ladies and
5s. for gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen desirous
of joining the society have to be proposed by mem-
bers. The library, consisting of 160 volumes by Mr.
Ruskin and kindred authors, is free to members.
The society offers lectures to outside associations on
Mr. Ruskin's teaching. Further information can be
obtained from the hon. secretary.
