PART FOURTH, LISTS AND TABLES.
ASSESSED TAXES continued.
On every carriage ^vilh less than four wheels, of
the following description, the duty is L.l, 10s. It
must be entirely constructed of wood and ii-on, with
any spring or springs, wholly or in part of metal, tut
without any covering other than a tilted covering
and without any lining, apron, or cushion. The
seat must be fixed, or suspended by slings or braces.
And such carriage must be kept as a conunon stage
cart, and used truly and without fi-aud, in the affairs
of husbandry, or in the carriage of goods, or in the
course of trade. But it may be occasionally used
by the proprietor, or by his family or servants, but
by them only, for riding therein, provided that it
exliibit, legibly and conspicuously painted, the pro-
prietor's name and residence, and the words " Com-
mon St<tgv Cart ;" and provided also that it be not
on any occasion let or used for hii-e or profit.
On any and every horse, mare, gelding or mule,
not otherwise chargeable to the duties on horses
used for riding, or drawing carriages, but used in
drawing any common stage cart as above described,
the duty is 10s. 6d.
Every horse, mare, gelding, or mule, used by any
common carrier is not charged more than 1 Os. 6d.
payable by schedule F. of the acts relating thereto.
HORSES The duty chargeable per annum upon
all horses kept for riding, or drawing carriages, is as
follows :_One horse L.l, 8s. 9d Two, L.4, Us. 6d.
—Three, L.7, 16s. 9d Four, L.ll Five, L.13,
I8s. 9d Si.\-, L.17, 8s Seven, L.20, 18s. .Sd._
Eight, L.-23, 18s Nine, L.'27, Cs. 9d Ten, L.31,
ISs Eleven, L.34, 18s. 6d Twelve, L.38, 2s
Tliirteen, L.41, 8s. 9d Fourteen, L 44, 12s Cd
Fifteen, L.47, 16s. 3d Si.xteen, L.51 — Seventeen,
L54, «s Eighteen, L58, Is Nineteen, L.61, 15s.
— Twent}', L.66. Horses let on hire without post
dutj', and race horses, pay each L.l, 8s. 9d. Horses
rode by butchers in the exercise of their trade, pay
each L.l, 8s. 9d. ; but where two only are kept, the
second is charged 10s. 6d. Horses not exceeding the
height of 13 hands, pay each L.l, Is. One horse
used by a bailiff on a farm, is chai-ged L. 1 , 5s. Other
horses 1 3 hands high, and mules, not included in any
of the above descriptions, pay each 10s, 6d.
DOGS — The annual charge for every greyhound
is L.l. For every Homid, Pointer, Setting Dog,
Spaniel, Terrier, or Lurcher; and for every Dog,
when two or more are kept, of whatever denomina-
tion they maybe (except Greyhounds) 14s. each.
For dogs of every other description, when one only
is kept, the charge is 8s. All dogs under six months
old are exempt, and persons compounding for a pack
of hounds, are charged L.36.
HORSE DEALERS — Every person exercising
the trade of a horse dealer, L.12, 10s. a-vear.
HAIR POWDER Persons wearing or using
hair powder, pay L.l, 3s. 6d. per annum.
ARMORIAL BEARINGS Persons who use
armorial bearings, and who keep a coach or other
taxable carriage, pay L.2, 8s. per annum. Persons
not keeping any such carriage, but who are liable
to house or window duty, pay L.I, 4s. per annum ;
and persons who neither keep any can-iage nor are
liable to either house or window dutj-, pay 12s. per
annum.
GAME — The charge for an ordinary licence to
kill game is L3, 13s. Gd. per annum. A person
duly appointed and registered as game keeper upon

any lands, provided such person be a servant to any
one duly charged with the servant dutj', for keeping
him, pays L.l, 5s. per annum. A person duly ap-
pointed and registered as game keeper upon any
lands, but not otherwise a servant, on whom the ser-
vant duty is in any way cliarged, pays the ordinary
licence, L.3, 13s. 6d. per annum.
Pe.valtv Every person not having duly paid
the game duty, as above, is Uable to a penalty of
L.20, for using any dog, gun, net, or other means for
the purpose of taking or killing any game, or any
woodcock, snipe, quaU, landrail, or cony, or who shall
take or kiB, or assist in so doing, any of the same, by
any means whatever.
TAXES IN EDINBURGH.
The following is a correct list of the taxes payable
in Edinbiu-gh, local as well as national. The Mob
Money is an extraordinary, and not a permanent
assessment. Property situated in St Cuthbert's
parish pays a poor's rate, but no annuity tax.
