A member of this society who has been 12 months
enrolled, on being incapacitated by disease, accident,
or infirmity, from following his usual avocation, is
entitled to receive £1 per week. On the death of a
member who has been 12 months enrolled, the so-
ciety pays £10 to the nearest of kin, or other
person taking charge of his funeral. Annual meeting
in Glasgow on the fourth Friday of January. The
directors meet on the first Tuesday of each month.
Number of members, 1391; annual contributions
of members, £3017 lis. 9d. ; total annual income,
£4759 5s. 6d.; amount of funds invested or in bank,
£40,055 15s. 7d. ; benefits paid since the formation of
the society, £37,308 5s. 3d. Forms of application

the city, and to promote the adoption of Liberal prin-
ciples in the government of the country.

The object of this Club is the study and advance-
ment of art in Glasgow and the West of Scotland,
which it seeks to promote by means of life classes and
an annual exhibition of works by its members, and also
by social meetings, at which sketches, pictures, and
objects of art are exhibited, and by conversation and
discussions on art topics.
Intending applicants for admission will receive all
necessary information from the secretary, with whom
applications must also be lodged.
GLASGOW LEGAL AND SPECULATIVE
SOCIETY.
Instituted 1852.

The objects of ihis society are, by the conducting
of debates on legal and speculative questions, to pro-
mote the legal and general knowledge of its mem-
bers, the habit of self-possession and fluency and
accumcy in the expression of ideas. The session
extends from October to April, inclusive, during
which period the society meets in the Faculty Build-
ings every Tuesday evening, at eight o'clock.
NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY OF GLASGOW.
For the purpose of encouraging the pursuit of
natural history in all its branches, and fostering a
love of the sciences, by meetings for the exhibition
of specimens, both native and foreign, the reading of
communications, and excursions for mutual improve-
ment. Candidates for membership are recommended
by three members of the society. The society meets
on the last Tuesday of the months, September to April,
in the library of Anderson's University, George Street.

The object of this Society is the encouragement of
the study of archeology generally, and more particu-
larly in Glasgow and the Wfst ef Scotland. The
annual general meeting is held in November, and
special general meetings and excursions are arranged
from time to time by the council.
ST. MUNGO ART SOCIETY.
This society was instituted in 1874. Its object is
the improvement of the members in the theory and :
practice of art — to be promoted by a Life class, an j
annual exhibition, the circulation of a folio sketch !
book among the members, criticism on the sketches j
contained in it, and by conversation on kindred topics, |
The meetings of the Society take place on the first
Thursday of the month, and any further information
