The principal object of this society is to afford
pecuniary aid to indigent natives, or widows, or chil-
dren of natives, of these counties resident in or near
Glasgow. The subscription of £1 Is. per annum for
four years, or £4 4s. iu one sum, constitutes mem-
bership to parties eligible by connection with any of
these counties ; and gentlemen willing to be enrolled
are respectfully solicited to communicate with the
treasurer or secretary of the society, or any of the

ST. JOSEPH'S HOME FOR AGED INFIRM POOR
OF BOTH SEXES AND OF ALL DENOMINA-
TIONS, UNDER THE CARE OF THE LITTLE
SISTERS OF THE POOR.

This institution was founded at Glasgow in 1862,
and contains now 250 aged poor of both sexes.
The Sisters have no funds whatever; they support
the aged poor by whatever public chanty affords, and
therefore most gratefully accept cast-off clothes, furni-
ture, donations in money, or anything that may be
offered. Although the building is completed, dona-
tions for defraying the expenses are humbly solicited.
For admission apply at the institution.
The Sisters kindly invite tlieir friends and bene-
factors to favour them with a vitit. The Home is open
to visitors daily from 11 o'clock a.m. till 5 o'clock p.m.

This Society was instituted in the year 1725, for
the relief of aged and indigent persons, and for the
education of destitute children of the name of Bucha-
nan, or of any of the reputed septs of the clan. The
directors have at their disposal two bursaries of £25
per annum for a period of four years, to assist young
men of the name of Buchanan in the prosecution of
their studies at any of the universities in Scotland ;
and they further make considerable educational
grants to young talented persons of the clan, whose
means otherwise are insufficient to enable them to
obtain a liberal education, and who are desirous of
following academical pursuits.

probation) are entitled to 10s. 6d. or 21s. per week
sick benefit, according to contribution, while they
may be unable to attend their usual avocations, and
without reduction of the rate in protracted sickness.
Immediately after the entry money is paid, the
society becomes liable for the funeral money of £10
or £20, as may have been contributed for. An i
annuity of £6 or £12 is also pi-ovided to all members
after attaining the age of 70, when the contributions
cease. For the year ending olst December, 1875,
£808 12s. lOd. was paid as benefit from the funds
of the society, and from the society's origin a total
of £15,358 19s. 7d. has been so paid. The entry-
money is one quarter's contributions (which ranges
from 4s. lOd. at 19, to lis. 7-|d. at 45) with 2s. 6d.

ALEXANDER'S CHARITY— Duke Street.
The Lord Provost and Magistrates, the ministers of
the High Church, St. John's and College parishes,
Mr. Alexander's Testamentary Trustees, governors ;
Daniel M'Millan, head-master; teachers, Jliss Bell
and Miss Muir, Messrs. Sheddon, Munro, Normiles,
and Cuddle ; janitor, ]\I. Reid.
The object of this institution is to afford a gratuitous
education to — 1. Children of the surname of Alex-
der. 2. Children of the surname of Anderson.
3. Children who have for three years previous to their
admission been constantly resident in one or two
other of the parishes following, viz., High Church,
St. John's, and College. 4. Such children as the
governors may select and appoint. Schedules of ap-
plication furnished by the head-master.
M 'ALPINE'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded in 1811 by Mrs. M'Alpine, who conveyed
to trustees her property for the maintenance of poor
men and women of the description given in her will
— the former receiving annually £10, and the latter
£5. The trustees are the Deacon Convener and the
Ministers of eight of the Established Churches.
